Since most of the adds I see advertised for Credit Unions have interest rates much higher than Banks is that a good place to put my savings.

Absolutely. Credit unions typically have lower costs and are more responsive to their members. It’s good to have an account there– especially if you will be looking for a car loan or mortgage in the future.
