Data Breach – National Public Data
Hi Terry, Yikes, this National Public Data Breach was a big one! Which sites are safe to check whether we were impacted? A few I’ve seen from articles are npd.pentester.com and npdbreach.com. We’ve already frozen our credit at the three bureaus. Since we have seen no fraudulent activity with our data yet, we can’t file police or FTC reports. Are there ways to protect our SSN and IRS data, and is there anything else we should be “locking down” so to speak? I understand that the IRS can assign us a unique PIN, but we have a CPA file our taxes and get the PIN. Should we be doing something differently? I’ve read that we can lock our e-verify account too, but I worry that setting up the accounts to do that is just making our data available to even more third parties. Thanks so much!
Terry Says
You’re doing all the right things. Just keep checking your credit reports for “inquiries” so you’ll know of any attempts to establish new credit in your name. EVERYONE’s name and SS is now in a data breach!
