Ask Terry Questions Deceased wife’s SSN

Deceased wife’s SSN

By Terry Savage on June 25, 2024 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Hello Terrie,

My wife passed away in February 2021 was born in September 1966.

What happens to her Social Security benefits when she died And I am the Survivor?

Thank you,

Terry Says

If you were married to her at her death, you would qualify to receive benefits on her account — IF they were larger than the benefits you had earned on your own record.  And depending on your age.  Plus, there are some strategies you could use to deal with those benefits and make sure you get the most benefits to which you are entitled.

I suggest you go to www.MaximizeMySocialSecurity.com and use the very simple calculator to see what benefits you can get and when.
