Electronic Vehicle Tax Credit — separate tax return to get it?

By Terry Savage on June 16, 2023 | Taxes & Economy

My husband just bought an electric vehicle that qualifies for the $7500 tax credit.
If we file taxes jointly this year, we would be over the maximum salary cap to qualify to take the tax credit.
However, if we file married but separately, he qualifies salary-wise to be able to take the tax credit.
Are there any implications with doing this?

Terry Says

Married filing separately could impact several potential issues — including the additional cost of filing two tax returns. Here’s an article that will give you some of the impacts:

Bottom line –as your own tax advisor whether it is worth it to file separately to get this credit — vs the other costs and impacts in your situation.
