Ask Terry Questions Eligibility as elderly dependent

Eligibility as elderly dependent

By Terry Savage on April 29, 2020 | Wild Card

Why is an elderly or disable person(who’s not mentally challenged in any) not considered eligible for the stimulus check if claimed as a dependent on someone else taxes. The government is not giving the tax filer any additional money for the adult dependent. We are being left out. The amount of money the tax filer receive for that adult is not that much and he/ she helps that disable person year round. We mentally functional disable people need help as well. Some of live alone. I feel cheated out of getting the extra help like the stimulus check. Thanks

I understand your position. Just know that when your family member filed you as a dependent there was no thought of a stimulus plan. I have no idea who wrote that plan, and eliminated payments to adults (over 17) where are declared dependent. And I completely agree that it is unfair to so many people.
