Federal tax refund

I know you are swamped dealing with stimulus questions. I just wanted to get guidance from you related to federal tax refunds. I filed a paper return around March 25, 2020 which indicated that I was due a refund for the 2019 tax year. To date, May 21st, I have not received the refund. I did include my bank account information for a direct deposit.

Please be patient. You filed a PAPER return onthe same week all the IRS employees were sent home! It is probably sitting there in a stack, not yet processed. So even though you gave info for direct deposit, it is likely that they haven’t even reviewed your return.
I once visited the IRS processing center in Missouri with a TV crew on April 15th. Machines (and this was 20 years ago) slit open every envelope and remove checks and the money is immediately deposited. But if you return expected a refund and didn’t include a check, it is likely sitting in a pile waiting for real people to take a look!
