Federal Tax Return
We filed our joint tax return in February 2021 and have received our state return however not our federal refund. When I look it up online, it does not recognize our refund information at all. We have been unable to get in contact with our tax preparer. What can we do?

Just wait. I assume you are looking for a refund?
Did you actually sign and mail the return? Did you mail it registered? Or did you count on your tax preparer to file it electronically? And what do you mean by “can’t get in contact”?
Do you have any reason to believe that he/she actually didn’t file on your behalf?
One other alternative is to contact the office of tax payer assistance and assuming you are in Illinois, here is the link.

And of course, you’ve been to IRS.gov and clicked on “where’s my refund” to get the status — so I’m hoping it says “in process” instead of saying nothing at all!
