Fell Prey to unemployment scam
Hi Terry,
I am so glad I listened to you on WGN News. You spoke about seniors falling prey to this unemployment scam.
Today I received a letter in the mail, notifying me that was unemployment benefits were denied. I am 65 and did not file for unemployment. I canted unemployment and am waiting to hear back. I went to the identity theft website and reported it. I will also be reporting it to my local police.
My question is, do I need to report this to SS as well?
Please keep going on WGN with your wonderful reports to keep us safe.
Thanks for you time. Have blessed holidays!

Click on this link to read my article on what to do if this happens to you. Do everything on the list. And keep a record of your efforts to report it. Next January don’t be surprised if you get a 1099 asking for taxes on unemployment benefits you did not receive! That will be the next huge problem! But you won’t be alone, so do this and then wait.
