Filing a second time for unemoyment

By Terry Savage on December 17, 2020 | Wild Card

My daughter was furloughed from restaurant work back in March and successfully filed unemployment. She obtained temporary work with the Census Aug-Oct. During her employment at the Census, the restaurant called her back, but they agreed to wait until the Census work was over. She was getting ready to return to the restaurant when the restaurant was again closed. Can she file for unemployment again? And with whom – the restaurant? Thank you!

Terry Says

Yes, she should file based on her employment with the restaurant. And hopefully, they will substantiate her claim. Currently she is allowed a total of 39 weeks of unemployment (unless a new stimulus adds more) so I hope this will go smoothly. she should stress the date the restaurant was closed, and that her “getting ready” period included a plan for return. That will be a key factor, for sure.
