Filing and signing 2022 income tax forms on behalf of parents

By Terry Savage on April 09, 2023 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Hello Terry,
First of all, thank you for all you do helping people with their financial questions and concerns.
I’m filing both the 2022 federal and Illinois state income tax forms for my parents and was wondering about the proper way to sign and handle these since my father recently passed away this year (01/28/2023) but was alive for all of 2022. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hope this info doesn’t come too late. I try NOT to answer specific tax questions — because I’m really not the expert on that. If your rather passed away, even if before year-end, there should now be an estate of some sort — and those questions are best asked of your estate planning attorney and/or accountant. This is too complicated to guess at the answer.
