filing for taxes
I sent this question before and I did not see a response. Might have beed missed by myself or someone.
My mom is 87 and needs a stair chair to get up and down stairs. Her insurance will not cover for it. Can she claim it in her taxes at the end of the year?
Thank you

First, check to see if Medicare pays for it. Second, if the cost of the chair (and all her other medical expenses) exceed $7500, she can deduct it. Medical expenses include her premiums, out of-pocked uncovered expenses, etc. But she will have to use Schedule A to itemize when she files her tax return.
