Ask Terry Questions Financial advisor

Financial advisor

By Terry Savage on June 03, 2023 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Hi Terry,

My husband will be retiring in 2025. We are both in our 50s and need to find a good financial advisor. How do you go about finding one? My husband will be retiring from the Chicago Police and someone who specializes in that area would be preferred.

Thanks so much!

You sure do need to find a financial advisor, because retiring in your 50s is fraught with issues around “running out of money”! So I hope you are considering other ways of bringing in income for at least another 10 years. And you definitely need to recognize that Social Security benefits (if any were earned) will be severely impacted by the WEP (Windfall Elimination Provision) that reduces and offsets SS benefits because of covered public pensions.
