Listen to you often, just on 60 minutes. Looking for your thoughts. Changed 2 years ago from Edward Jones to a fiduciary planner. Went with a friends advise, who he was happy with. End of Aug, 2021, I invested $587,000. Today, Nov 9, I’m at $522,000. Haven’t made a dime in 2 years. Lost 2 years to retirement. I’m 68, but still working. Of course the planner has made their money. I’ve listened to the song and dance……throw out their favorite word “diversified”, looking at the market, got you set up, etc. But the bottom line, 2 years and have lost money. I can’t imagine no one’s not made any money in 2 years. Time to move on? thank you

Just for some perspective, in 2022 the S&P 500 was down by 18%. And bonds were down a similar amount, because bond prices fall as interest rates rise! It was the worst year EVER for bonds. So no wonder your diversifed portfolio suffered — along with everyone else.
And so far in 2023, the S&P 500 is up about 15-1/2% — but that still doesn’t get you even.
And so far in 2023 bonds have bounced around, but fallen a bit more as interest rates rose again. Read this about bonds from Morningstar: https://www.morningstar.com/markets/how-largest-bond-funds-did-q3-2023

Bottom line: You’re down about 10% for the past two years. Not a terrible return in the current marketplace.
