Fraudulent unemployment card?

By Terry Savage on December 27, 2020 | Wild Card

Hi Terry,

I have heard you speak many times on WGN about the Key Bank fraudulent debit cards. I believe I received one in the mail today. Last week I received 2 pieces of mail addressed to “Jennifer Kunz” at our address from a Springfield entity. There is no such person named that anywhere near me. I sent those back in the mail as “no such person here” – return to sender.
Today I received a piece of mail from Key Bank addressed to “Jennifer Kunz “ that I can tell has some type of card in it. I have not opened it, but I believe it is one of the fraudulent cards of which you have referenced. What should I do with this piece of mail?
Thank you for your assistance!

Poor Jennifer, her identity has been stolen — and unless she reads her name on this blog — she won’t know until she gets a 1099 form in January, asking her to pay taxes on unemployment benefits! By then the IRS will link her SS number with the correct address, and she will have a hassle.

Since your name isn’t involved, probably you are not at risk. But you might want to freeze your credit so no one can open new credit in your name and SS number. use the links in this article: https://www.terrysavage.com/identity-theft-update/
