Fraudulent unemployment claim made in my name
Hi Terry,
I have 2 jobs. I am a full time dentist and a part time instructor at the College of DuPage dental hygiene program. Last Thursday I was informed that someone had fraudulently filed an unemployment claim in my name. I went to the police station and filed a police report and am trying to contact IDES with no success. Yesterday I received a letter from IDES stating an employee filed an unemployment claim against my practice and I have until December 25 to contact them to contest it. That employee was listed as me. I’m a corporation. No one is answering the phone at IDES but U did leave my contact number for them to call. Any suggestions what I should do next?
Thank you,

Your identity has been stolen — and it’s almost impossible to get through to IDES — either to REPORT fraud, or as an “employer” to DISPUTE a claim against your business. IDES is a total mess. Get your number on the callback list — but it could take weeks for them to contact you — either as a defrauded individual, or as a defrauded employer!
You just need to protect yourself right now by doing everything on this list: https://www.terrysavage.com/identity-theft-update/
Keep track of all your efforts to report — because in Jan you’re likely to get a 1099 if someone actually did syphon off unemployment benefits using your SS number! That will be the next challenge!
