Full Social Security Benefits for public employees
I am a retired public school teacher who paid into Social Security for many years. In 1982, a Bill passed reducing public worker retirees S.S. Benefits by 2/3 because our public pensions were larger than our S.S. Pensions. Just recently this Bill was reversed. Will I automatically receive the increased amount of S.S. or do I need to apply for it. Thank you.

You won’t need to apply for it. But they haven’t said how or when the additional payments will start. The bill, drafted during 2024, provided for payments to be made after December 2023 — thus owing you the difference for the entire year of 2024 (and nothing previous). But more likely they will start paying in 2025. We will have to see how they handle it.
