Grandchildren’s inheritance

By Terry Savage on September 20, 2025 | Wild Card

I’m 85. My grandchildren are my beneficiary’s. I want to strongly suggest they stash 10% of their inheritage in something safe and leave it sit. Should I suggest T bills?

Terry Says

First of all, your grandchildren won’t get the money until you die! Hopefully that will be a few years down the road.
Then, they may have other priorities — paying off high-interest student loans, for example.
Teach them about the long-term benefits of investing in a diversifed stock portfolio through a mutual fund — hopefully inside an Individual Retirement Account.

The lessons you give while you’re alive, about how you saved and grew the money to this point, are their most valuable inheritance of all!
