House Deed & 2022 Real Estate Taxes

By Terry Savage on March 12, 2023 |

House Deed (Cook County) – Spouse (deceased 6/2021 at 66 yrs of age) has his name along with my name (64 years old) on deed. Real Estate bills still come in his name. Is it in my best interest to take him off the deed? I would assume the Real Estate bill will then come in my name if he is removed? The real estate bill currently has Senior Exemption on it due to my spouse’s age. How do I go about removing that Senior Exemption for 2022 tax year that is payable this year?
I, unfortunately, have 1 year that I will not be eligible for the Senior Exemption (2022 tax year) since i don’t turn 65 till this year. Any help you can give me i appreciate greatly!

Contact Andrea Raila, property tax attorney, : (312) 587-9494. Use my name.
Her firm is the expert. This advice should be free, unless she has to file papers for you. You don’t want to get fined for taking the senior exemption for a year in which you did not qualify.
