How To Correct Mistake On 2020 Return
I just realized my mother’s 2020 federal tax return did not have a box checked at the top of page one. Should we file an amended return with the box checked? She has a refund coming but hasn’t gotten it and this is probably why. Thanks!

I’d be careful of trying to amend this return. The IRS is way behind and may not have gotten around to it — especially if it was filed on paper. Instead, open an IRS account for her — use the link in this article –and try to track the return. Many are still waiting for those 2020 refunds. Eventually they will come– with 3% interest back to mid-April 2021.
