husband paid SS or decades
Good morning, I think the only reason I get the Sunday Trib is to read you. Jan is a retired state of Illinois teacher, never paid in to SS, her husband died 17 years ago and Jan was told by SS she could not collect his SS as she has state pension. Now we hear about the Fairness act and wonder if she made a mistake not applying for his SS, what do you think?

She probably was entitled to “some” of his benefits, but likely a small amount. NOW, with passage of the Fairness Act, she will be entitled to his FULL social security benefit. She should apply immediately!!
