I-Bond for adult son on my account?

Dear Terry Savage:

Can I purchase a $5,000 I-Bond for my adult son?

I purchased an I-Bond for myself, so I do have an active account. I did have to fill out and send in a FS Form 5444, waited over 20 weeks for a response, received none, then called and waited on hold for 4 hours. Finally my issue was resolved.

My 26 year old son recently tried to open an account of his own. Same “send in the form” issue, but he chose not to pursue that avenue just yet.

I would like to help him out to get him in on the 9.2% rate.

Can you help me help him?
