I bonds
Do you recommend I bonds as a gift for 20 and 30 somethings?
The current interest rate is attractive, but is the 6 month rate worth 5 years of holding?
Terry Says
The base rate is zero — and the “inflation adjustment’ will change every 6 months, depending on what is happening in the economy. For a 20-something who is working and has “earned income”, I would think you should go to Acorns.com, and open an IRA for them as a “starter” gift. And get them to sign up to deposit their paycheck in the Acorns checking account, with an automatic monthly investment into that IRA. Now, that will be a long term gift!
