Ask Terry Questions I bonds — beneficiary?

I bonds — beneficiary?

By Terry Savage on May 08, 2022 | Chicken Money

I purchased I bonds and listed my revocable living trust as owner. What happens when I pass? Will my trustee be able to cash them or should I have trust listed as beneficiary?

Terry Says

Your successor trustee will automatically be able to deal with them. The proceeds will go into your estate if the bonds are then cashed in. But if you want the proceeds to go to a specific person, you can add their name as a beneficiary. That’s done on the TreasuryDirect.gov website where you have your account.
