I Bonds in IRA
Hello,
Why should we not have I Bonds in an IRA?
Thank you
Terry Says
You CANNOT have I-bonds in an IRA through direct purchase from the TreasuryDirect.gov site. The government does not act as a “custodian” for IRAs.
However there is one exception. If you have your IRA at a place like Fidelity, Vanguard or Schwab (all of which have a “brokerage division” where you can invest your IRA in specific stocks, then you CAN purchase Treasury BILLS inside your IRA.
