IBond interest rate?

By Terry Savage on July 13, 2025 | Chicken Money

Hi Terry

I have a $5,000 IBond issued 02/2010. I have my inventory saved on Treasury Direct. The site is showing 2.2% as the interest rate….is this the fixed rate only or is it the “total” interest rate (fixed + inflation rate).

If it is a “total interest rate I fell I should redeem and invest elsewhere. Your answer & recommendations please.

Terry Says

Bonds issued between Nov 1 2009 and May 1, 2010 carried a low fixed lifetime base rate of 0.30%. That is added to the current inflation adjustment of only 1.43%.

Yep, it’s time to sell that I bond, pay the taxes (no state tax) and reinvest or just put in a MM fund to get a higher return.
