Ask Terry Questions IBond vs tbills

IBond vs tbills

By Terry Savage on August 19, 2023 | Chicken Money

I have a $10,000 IBond which has been held for a year. It’s currently only making 3.38% with Tbills making over 5%. Is it better to cash in the bond and buy 6 month tbills? Thank you.

Terry Says

You will lose 3 months interest if you cash them in after holding for only one year. And only gain 6 months interest at 5.5% roughly in T-bills. YOu might want to hold the savings bonds and use other money to buy T-bills in the same account.
