Ibonds — trouble opening account
A friend of mine tried to get an ibond but was told on the treasury direct site that he would have to fill out FS Form 5444 & it would have to be notorized. I didn’t have to do this a few months ago. Is this something new?

If your friend was purchasing in his or her own name, and not the name of a revocable living trust, they might have made an entry error. Start over at TreasuryDirect.gov to open an account. Link his/her bank account to the TD account and make sure you keep all access numbers/account number and password stored safely.

It must be notarized before filing.
