identity theft if credit is locked

By Terry Savage on December 27, 2020 | Wild Card

Due to past issues with market crash, foreclosure, short sales. I have no use for banks except for checking accounts and credit cards. With the major credit breaches in the past, I froze my credit reports. I unfreeze momentarily for things I have to like utilities , cell phones and credit cards. Bottom line, am I safe from identity theft?

Terry Says

You are safe from someone opening NEW credit in your name if your credit is frozen. But watch your bank and credit card balances carefully, as it is possible that someone could use your existing accounts. You are 1005 protected against fraudulent use of credit cards or debit cards. But it would be a hassle. So check online weekly (through a secure connection at home, not on wifi in Starbux!) to make sure all is listed correctly.
