IDES Debit Card
I saw your segment on WGN today (7/16/2020) regarding fraudulent debit cards from IDES. I too received a debit card, but I actually applied for unemployment (gig workers). Before certifying for the first time, I made sure my status was direct deposit and I received my funds. However, a week later, I received a debit card in the mail. I haven’t touched it and I’ve tried unsuccessfully to reach Key Bank and IDES. Any suggestions on what I should do with it? Clearly I’m not going to activate it, but I also don’t want to be penalized for it either. And advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, do activate it. It may be that they confused your request, and that your benefits are on the card! If it’s your name on the card and you DID apply, then these could be your benefits! The system is such a mess that this is entirely possible!
