IDES /Identity problem?

By Terry Savage on June 13, 2021 |

I am a 67 year old woman who has been a stay-at-home mother since 1984. I have not worked for wages since then. Out of the blue, I got a communication from IDES that I apparently worked until September 10 of last year, for a company in Bloomington (I live in Lake County). It’s obviously not me. I’m afraid someone is using my identity to try to score some benefits, and I don’t know what to do. Is my identity at risk in other areas too? How do I let IDES know that it’s not me? Do I call one of the many phone numbers on this communication? I’m really confused.

Terry Says

Yes, your identity has been stolen, likely just for the purposes of claiming unemployment benefits.
Do everything on this list to protect yourself from further uses of your identity.
And yes, you can contact IDES to file an identity theft report — but they likely will not get back to you. They are so messed up.
Just make sure that they did not send a 1099 to the IRS. You will have to explain to them that this was stolen identity. Keeping a screen shot of your attempt to report to IDES will bolster your argument! You are not alone!
