Why is it better to have my unemployment money direct dep instead of using the key card? If there is identity theft are they not able to get my bank account information and start taking money from my account?

There is always a risk of identity theft — whether you use a card or direct deposit. That’s why I advocate locking/freezing your credit. It just depends on how you want to use the money to pay your bills. My recent columns have focused on FRAUDULENTY SENT benefits cards — which have been “hijacked” inside the system, with benefits rerounted to fraudulent checking accounts, according to the FBI.
