IDES prepaid debit card for deceased brother

By Terry Savage on December 17, 2020 | Wild Card

I just received a prepaid debit card in the name of my deceased brother (died in 2014) from IDES. I received it since I’m executor for his estate. My question, do I need to do anything, except to shred/toss the card? There is an open trust account for his children, but that ‘s under a separate federal tax ID.

Just so you have some cover — and in case he (or the estate) somehow receives a 1099 — you should attempt to report it to the state and to the FBI. Call 1-800-CALL FBI. But I don’t see future vulnerability — only a chance to help the FBI track this fraud.
