IDES prepaid debit card — no help available!

By Terry Savage on July 20, 2020 | Wild Card

I too received one. I called the bank that issued it. Asked them to cancel it. They said they can’t because it’s a prepaid card. Told me “someone wants you to have this money”. Called several times trying to explain to bank it’s an IDES card that I didn’t apply for. Can’t reach anyone at at IDES to fix this matter. What do you suggest? I had to give the bank the number on the card, etc. I don’t want any problems with the government. I am also a senior citizen. Thanks. I watch you on WGN often and just signed up for your emails earlier today. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Terry Says

OK, hold on to the card and DO NOT ACTIVATE it.
Then go to www.AnnualCreditReport.com by clicking on that link.
Get your credit report from one of the three bureaus. Make sure there are no new bank accounts listed. If there are new accounts you don’t recognize, then report the fraud.
If there are no new accounts, let’s make sure no one opens one by putting a freeze on your credit report.
