IDES turned him down, then sent HUGE payment!
Terry my 20yr old son was turned down for unemployment as he did not work enough and then a few days later I received a IDES debit card from Key Bank which we did not activate as I know there have been some scams going on. Then this morning he received a direct deposit from IDES for $18,305.71. Plan on reaching out to IDES but not sure quick I will actually talk to someone.
We have already frozen his credit reports.
Any help would be appreciated.
Terry Says
Whew – that is truly a case of IDENTITY THEFT! Do everything in this article, including first thing reporting to the police and FBI!

But do NOT take the money out of your account and try to return it! Just wait until IDES gives you direct deposit info to return the money, which will take a LONG TIME for them to get around to it.
In the meantime, he will certainly get a 1099 from the government asking for taxes on the money. I will be writing a lot about that in January.
Again, do not try to mail the money back to IDES!!
And fingers crossed -=- maybe it really IS his money — if they reconsidered and paid him the benefits he filed for! That’s a long shot though!
