Ask Terry Questions IL Unemployment 1099

IL Unemployment 1099

By Terry Savage on March 02, 2021 | Wild Card

I had to go online to get my 1099 for benefits paid to me in 2020. The 1099 has a larger number reported than the payments I received. How do I rectify this? Thank you for all the help you give us. Never miss you with John on WGN.

UGH — This will be tough to get straightened out. If you’re pretty sure that you are correct, then file with your own number on the line and their 1099. For sure the IRS will contact you and ask about the discrepancy. So you’d better have proof that your numbers are correct — such as deposit amounts printed out on monthly statements, etc.
Also get in line to contact IDEs. And if it’s a big discrepancy, you might even file the fraud form at the IDES website — assuming that perhaps someone else put in your SS number and also collected benefits on your file!! Either way, you want to have some proof that you tried to notify IDES, when you are ultimately dealing with the IRS.
