Illinois Unemployment and stimulus payments
My daughter went on Maternity leave in Nov 2019 and returned to work in February 2020. She was laid off March 20th from a homebuilder (obvious lack of work). they told her to file for unemployment. She did, twice and has been denied twice for insufficient earnings. How far do they look back on the 941s? She has worked full time for years. She did receive her stimulus payment from the feds, but did not get the extra for my grandson. They filed the 2019 returns. Do they need to request that dependent stimulus elsewhere? Thanks for any help or direction you can provide.

Ugh, she is really caught here. I’m presuming it was unpaid maternity leave. But did she include any PAID maternity leave that she might have earned during this period? If not, she likely won’t qualify for unemployment. And that’s terrible.
AND, they are making lots of mistakes with stimulus payments, often leaving off children. Down the road — and I’m not sure how far down the road — the IRS will likely have a place where people can contest payments that were not accurate. But that could take a while. She will receive a letter two weeks after getting her stimulus payment, and there may be an opportunity to protest from that letter. Sorry I can’t give you any good news.
