Ask Terry Questions Income Tax Return

Income Tax Return

By Terry Savage on April 14, 2023 | Taxes & Economy

I’m a widowed senior. My CPA did my return electronically on 3/7/23. The IRS sent me a 5071C letter 3/23/23 saying they received it, but needed more info to verify my identity. I then went on line and varied everything. My CPA had my $6,000 overpaid from the previous applied to my 2023 estimates. Now I find out that my refund was put on a Greendot card. When I called them they told me the cats with that amount was blocked and I have to call IRS again and have them get money back. I want the money back in my checking account and I will do estimates. I need to do 1 for $3,000 by 4/18/23? Looks like what they received had this Green Dot routing # unbeknown to my CPA. Do you have a contact at IRS I can talk to? Will I get my $6,000 back? Please help me!!

Where is your CPA in all of this?? He/she made the error that caused your return to be flagged. Let him or her know that they will be hearing from me if they don’t contact Social Security to get this fixed. This is not your job, or mine.

It is negligent to get a client’s return on a card — without clearing it with a client. Are you sure this was a CPA??

Please write back if you get a hassle. A CPA has a duty to clients, and fell far short in this instance. So let me know what happens.
