Income taxes For disability payments

By Terry Savage on March 12, 2023 | Social Security

Hello, last year(2022)I was put on disability. I worked the first to months of the year. I also received back pay in September. Do I have to file taxes this year. Few thousand in work. 20,000 back pay. Received 1440 a month disability benefits. I usually do EZ form. If I have to file would I need to change that. Thank You.

This is a special case. You DO have to file taxes, for sure, with $20,000 in back pay. I suggest you consult a tax preparer — OR use the IRS/FreeFile opportunity since your income is below $73,000. It will cost you nothing to get your return done.
