Ask Terry Questions Interest rates

Interest rates

By Terry Savage on February 20, 2023 |

Hi Terry, just a quick question.

The interest rates on T-bill and bonds are annual percentage rates correct? APR? Sometimes this isn’t always stated, and I’m just checking. BTW, I’ve signed up for your newsletter several times but have not received it. Checked the spam file. I signed up one more time today and got an auto response from you. I hope it worked this time.

The rate you see for the 6-month T-bill is an annual rate that you get for 6 months. Then, when you RENEW the T-bill at the end of 6 months, you will get a new rate — based on economic conditions at that time. So you don’t know the full year’s APR earned until you get the next 6-month rate.
