Investing in indexes now?
I believe you mentioned subject on WGN. I took your advice of moving my ira’s invested in Franklin Funds to their money market. I talked with my financial adviser, he suggested investing in indexes. Where do I find: what is an index? should I take my current $140,000 and invest or only a portion. I’m 77 year old female, with small IMRF pension. My husband does have fireman’s pension(very good) which I would also benefit from, in the event of his passing. Thanks for your help.

He suggested investing in indexes because he will make a commission on an index fund! At this stage of your life, and at this stage in the market, the entire amount should remain in the money market fund. Tell him I said so!!
This is “chicken money” — money you can’t afford to lose. It’s not so important to worry about the return ON your money as the return OF your money. You don’t want to be losing ANY of your nestegg in your situation.
