IRMAA REDUCED MEDICARE PART B

By Terry Savage on December 16, 2024 | Financial Planning / Retirement

My husband passed away July 2024. He’s due a yearly IRMAA payment. I have not reached 73 to get my own IRMAA distribution. Reading your article in my local paper, I saw where I could have my medical Part B reduced due to my income being drastically reduced. Should I contact my local SS office to apply for this reduction or should I get the help of an expert in helping to get that Medicare Part B reduced?

Terry Says

I’m not quite sure what you mean by an IRMAA “payment” or “distribution.” if you read the column, you know that IRMAA is an “adjustment’ — a higher premium for Medicare Part B and D.

But it appears that you now need some planning help not only on getting lower Medicare premiums, but on how to invest and when you’re required to take distributions from your own IRA and from any inherited IRA.
