IRMAA

By Terry Savage on December 16, 2024 | Taxes & Economy

HELLO, i ignorantly files 2023 taxes as married separate. on 11-27-24 i took 2 sworn statements from wife and i that we did not live together at any time in 23. on 12-7-24 i got a letter from SSA stating my irmaa will be in the category of married/separate. question; was this decision made before i took the statements to SSa office? and will they change my status to single based on us not living together? its very ambiguous what they will do. thanks

Terry Says

If you are still legally married, your status is still Married Filing Separately, which has its costs. So make up your mind about divorce for next year! Consult your accountant for the extra costs of married filing separately.
