IRS Letters
Hi Terry!
In the past two weeks, two letters from the IRS addressed to a woman that does not live in my home have been delivered. One is a receipt of her economic impact payment and the other is the receipt of Child Tax Credit. I listen to you on all of the WGN shows, should I be worried about fraud here or is this person just using our address? What do you advise I do, I tried calling IRS without any success, I can’t get past the automated system! Thanks so much for your help, you are amazing!

That’s not your problem –as long as she isn’t using YOUR Social Security number! You can find that (or at least the last four digits) on the form letters you received.
But it wouldn’t hurt to check your credit report for free at www.AnnualCreditReport.com. Just make sure there are no unfamiliar accounts or inquires from banks. And it wouldn’t hurt to freeze your credit, either. Read this article.
The woman doesn’t actually need those letters to file her return. They are informational only. So just set them aside for a year, or if you still have one of the envelopes, stuff them in there and mark them “addressee unknown” and give them to your mail delivery person.
