IRS Pin in January 25 2021 column
I have been using a pin to sign my Fed tax returns for a number of years. Is the pin you discussed in today column different than the one I am using. I did not have my identity stolen. I have always enjoyed you column and your segments on WGN. Thank you for keeping us informed.

Typically, those PINs from earlier years were only made available to people who had previously had an ID theft problem. Now that service is being made available to all filers. So if you have an existing PIN, you know you must re-register every year.
That caused a lot of problems last year, with IRS offices closed — and people couldn’t recertify their PINs. Hopefully tht never happens again!
