Ask Terry Questions IRS problem

IRS problem

By Terry Savage on June 03, 2023 | Taxes & Economy

I received a letter from the IRS stating that they need more information from me to verify my identity and tax return information so they can continue processing my tax return. Of course I can’t get through on the phone. How do I get the information to them.I filed single this year after years of filing joint with my husband who is deceased.

I think your first step is to apply for a PIN — the identification number that verifies who you are.
Read these instructions: https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/frequently-asked-questions-about-the-identity-protection-personal-identification-number-ip-pin

If you received a letter they must have asked you to respond in some way, perhaps beyond acquiring a PIN. Would you write back and explain further what they wanted you to do? Do you have an accountant who could help you with this. If not, pls send details, not your SS number, in response to the email you receive notifying you that your question has been answered. Include your telephone number, and I will see if I can get you a more personal answer.
