IRS tax refunds
Hi, Terry.
I have been listening to you on various news outlets, most recently on WGN – 720.
I sincerely appreciate your advice.
I have heard your comments that IRS is slow with refunds this year.
I filed my 2020 return on May 10, 2021 using TaxTurbo, which I’ve used without incident for past decade. I have rental income for my condo (which I have not been able to sell) so I use the Turbo Tax version where I may access online support, review & answers to questions before I submit.
I’ve checked online frequently
2 weeks ago, I called the IRS with a lot of effort. When I reached a human, I was put on hold 2x, which I was totally fine with & then the response was that my return, as reported on the online automated access site, that my return was still being processed. The IRS person told me that I should expect the return to be processed within possibly 6 more weeks. If the IRS determined a discrepancy, the return would be corrected, the corrected refund would be deposited into my checking account.
Is this consistent with what you have been hearing from other listeners? Are there other steps you would recommend to get to the bottom of this issue? It will soon be another tax filing season & I would like to have this resolved. I would also like to pay a bill with the refund I am awaiting.
Terry Says
I’m amazed that you managed to reach a human! Other than that, this is EXACTLY what’s happening to EVERYONE!
And lots of people need the refund money to pay bills – -important ones like rent and food! The IRS is busy sending out money in the child tax credit, reviewing returns for refunds on taxes paid on unemployment benefits, etc. Frankly, I’ll be surprised if you get your refund before October. Please do write back and let me know when it arrives.
And if you keep checking the “where’s my refund” site, be sure to buy a large bottle of antacid, because it is rarely updated and a recipe for anxiety.
