Leave of Absence from Child Protection job

By Terry Savage on February 26, 2021 | Wild Card

I am a Child Protection Investigator. This is a high stressful job! I had a recent incident that was my breaking point! I took a LOA and so far I have been off for 2months due to Mental health. I have burned through all my sick time and now I am working unpaid. I have been looking for a different position but the State been blocking different positions! What are my options for short term disability! Thank you

I’m no expert on short-term disability, so I had to look it up to see the provisions of Illinonis state employees.
Here’s the best I could do:
https://www.srs.illinois.gov/SERS/disben_sers.htm#:~:text=The%20disability%20benefit%20is%2075,were%20removed%20from%20the%20payroll.&text=You%20may%20be%20eligible%20for,the%20State%20Universities%20Retirement%20Systems.

But given how messed up the state is, you might have difficulty talking with them and getting approved for this program.

I don’t want to end without saying how appreciated you are for the work you do. Everything we see a headline about some child who has been mistreated, we all wonder “where was the state?” And YOU are the state, and we rarely acknowledge how difficult and heart-breaking this work is. So let me say a sincere thank you. And I hope you can at some point continue your much needed service.
