LIFELOCK

By Terry Savage on July 24, 2020 | Wild Card

Terry, is Lifelock a good thing? We are seniors and have had Lifelock for years. But it costs us over $500 a year and I believe they are raising their rates this year. If I put a freeze with the 3 major credit score companies (Experian, Transunion, etc), would that be sufficient to keep us safe? TY!!!!

Terry Says

Yes, it is more than sufficient to just freeze your accounts. That is an outrageous amount of money to pay for Lifelock. They have much lower promo prices.
But do get a copy of your credit report at www.AnnualCreditReport.com from one of the three bureaus. Then check to make sure you recognize all the accounts. AND, take a look at the “inquiries” section to make sure no bank inquired about you. Since bank accounts don’t show up on a credit report, you will want to look for inquiries that could have been a prelude to opening a new account. If you find one, contact that bank to make sure they do not have an account in your name.
Then sleep well — and enjoy the extra money.
