Ask Terry Questions Living Will

Living Will

By Terry Savage on October 23, 2022 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Both my husband and I have the Illinois Statutory Short Form Power of Attorney for Health Care. How is this different from a Living Will? Is a Living Will also necessary?

Terry Says

Yes, you should also have a living will. It tells the physicians specifically how YOU feel about end-of-life heroic medical measures. You sign off (or not) on every measure, including tube feeding, being resuscitated, etc. It is a totally different document than giving someone the power to make healthcare decisions when you are incapacitated.
