Maximum Social Security Payments in 2025
Good morning, Ms. Savage, and a Happy New Year to you. The top monthly Social Security payment in 2024 was $4873. With the 2.5% COLA adjustment for 2025, that should increase to $4995 per month; however, I have seen numerous articles (including Kiplinger, Motley Fool, etc.) stating that the top maximum Social Security payment in 2025 will be $5108. Any idea how they arrived at that number? Are they wrong by $113/month?

I think you’re confusing the maximum benefit at full retirement age, with the maximum benefit at delayed until 70 retirement age!
Maximum Social Security benefit for 2025: $4,018 per month
Maximum Social Security benefit including Delayed Retirement Credits for 2025: $5,108 per month
